What News Reader to display Chinese properly in Linux [message #223897] Mo, 17 Juli 2006 02:27

Any suggestion on what news reader to display Chinese properly in Linux
both for Chinese name newsgroup, like news.newsfan.net, and for Chinese
posts in either English group or cn group.
I now use PAN, it can not display properly any single Chinese named news
group in news.newsfan.net, also it can not display most post headers which
are in Chinese, though it can display a few Chinese headers properly. For
the post bodies, it can display most Chinese bodies properly, though a few
bodies are not displayed properly no matter how I set the encoding. Any
replies are appreciated, even if they are in Chinese. At least I can go to
groups.google.com to see what your reply posts are. Thank you!

Thanks, pal. I am just preparing to learn how to play in emacs.
And I was just told by a guy that Thunderbird can deal with Chinese
group name properly. I tried it. Yes. it was not the version I used two
years ago. The new thunderbird is great. Zero installation under linux,
very easy encoding configuration for news server.
So, we linuxers have one more good News Reader as choice.
Thanks for your information. I definitely will also try to use Emacs+GNUS.
