CHAO: On June 30th, officials from Zigong city in Sichuan province sent
about 200 fully armed riot policemen to suppress farmers from Baiguo
village. The farmers were protecting their land from being taken by the
regime. Many villagers were injured and the farmers who lost their land
were arrested.

Sources say the city government took the farmer's land under the pretext
of building an industrial zone. 30,000 farmers have since lost their
homes, land and livelihood without compensation. The Zigong city
government is also suspected of embezzling profits as high as 6 and a
quarter billion U.S. dollars.

Farmers Chen Shouxian, Hu Shuming, who is disabled and Zeng Pan, who is
pregnant, have since been released. But six are still detained, two
weeks after being arrested.
